LIMITATIONS OF THE TEST The presence of blood in stools may be other than colorectal bleeding, such as hemorrhoids, blood in urine or stomach irritations. Negative results do not exclude bleeding since it can be intermittent. Colorectal polyps at very early stages may not bleed. Other clinically available tests are required if questionable results are obtained. As with all diagnostic tests, a definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single test, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. SENSITIVITY The Occult Blood test has been evaluated with specimens obtained from patients with clinical symptoms which were also found positive in a Flex Sure Occult Blood test. A sensitivity of 98.7 % was obtained when compared to the Flex Sure Occult Blood test. SPECIFICITY The Occult Blood test has been evaluated with specimens obtained from healthy patients who scored negative in a Flex Sure Occult Blood test. |
